Videos have very positive effect in most projects, especially ones related to online publications. Today’s website design and trends show more and more videos being used either as part of website contents or as backgrounds.
As the use of video becomes more and more popular, finding the right video at an affordable cost is very crucial.
In this article, I’m going to list 3 places you can find free videos to use for both commercial and personal (and/or non-profit) projects.
1. PIXABAY
For those already familiar with Pixabay, it won’t come as a surprise to see it take up a number one spot. Pixabay is known mostly for having a largest collection of free photos, but it also offer free videos that you’ll find applicable in many projects.
To begin, visit Pixabay, use the search box to type in keywords describing the kind of video you want (e.g Cute pets), to the right of the search box, click the drop-down menu and select videos, move your cursor over a video for a preview. Click on a video you want, select a size and download it.
2. LIFE OF VIDS
Life of vids is another place to download videos for both personal and commercial projects. Although its collection is not as large as Pixabay, Life of Vids has some really beautiful clips that you should find very useful.
While it’s free for personal and commercial projects, they’d however have a redistribution limit of 10 videos on other websites. Unless you are planning to redistribute their videos on multiple websites, this shouldn’t be a problem.
They use Vimeo for their videos so downloading is very simple. Go to Life of Vids, use the search box to narrow down your search, or scroll to the bottom of the page and use the page numbers to go from page to page.
When you are ready to download, click the “Vimeo logo” on the player, you’ll be taken to the video page on vimeo, use the download button below the video to download.

3. Videvo
Videvo has a large collection of videos to choose from. In addition to videos, Videvo also offer motion graphics. Videvo offers two licenses for downloading its contents, its own standard license and Creative Commons 3.0 license.
It’s standard license permits you to download and use its video for any project forever, as long as you do not make the video available for download elsewhere. You can read about the two license types while you are on their website.
To begin, use the search box to find video you want, move your cursor over a video to see a preview, click on a video to access download link.
